Bujoreni Monastery

In order to come to Bujoreni Monastery, located in the middle of the forest in the beautiful glade of Bujoreni, you can use any means of transport.

Manastirea Bujoreni

The bus to Bujoreni goes every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. from Vasile Pârvan Museum (telephone number 0745 515 488 – Ioan).

On the county road Bârlad – Zorleni – Murgeni – Fălciu, after leaving the village Popeni, on the top of the hill where a TV transmitter station is located in a place called “The deer (Caprioara)”, there is a guidepost pointing to the left in the forest on a paved and well maintained forest road of 5 km length which leads directly to the monastery courtyard. You can also travel to this monastery by train, by getting off the train at Horga railway station and walking away for about 5-6 km. The current monastery has been entirely rebuilt thanks to the zeal of Ioanichie Konachi who loved this place very much and built in 1840, from bricks and stones, a new church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary feast day, on August 15. The professor Gheorghe Clapa says that the following aspects regarding the architectural style of this place of worship are noteworthy:

– The church has been built in the last period of the Moldavian style. Its architectural style is that of the churches with a trefoil-shaped plane, a style characteristic to the Byzantine art and widely spread in Athos, Serbia, Wallachia and Moldova.

– The plane of the church is like a trefoil composed by a single nave and three apsides.

– The iconostasis is made of linden wood. The walls of the church have a thickness ranging from 75 to 90 cm. The plinth of the church is made of stones and the walls are made of bricks and mortar.
